2K Czech didn’t leave us calm even one day before Christmas and they’re serving us really nice wallpaper with “Happy Holidays” writing. There is small Joe and Vito near the Christmas Tree on the wallpaper. Vito is amazed by the gift he just received… He was given his first gun – gun for kids. We would like to say thanks not only to 2K Czech but also to Roman Hladik who has created this wallpaper and therefore given us nice Christmas gift.
New (old) wallpaper
New wallpaper has appeared on the official website but it seems it’s the worst one we have seen so far. It is basically a college containing the picture located on the home page of the official web and the big MAFIA 2 logo with dark background.
Church visit
As already mentioned in the last article, we’re preparing a large analysis of the last trailer for you. From the first half of the analysed trailer we’ve made few screenshots.
Holiday Confession Trailer
The new trailer is at the beginning tuned to the Christmas, but that is changing rapidly while Vito has been confessing in the church. Trailer does not render as the first, but it is created directly from the engine of the game. It means that the graphics should be the same as in the video. At the end even know that the game should be released in fall 2009. You´ll learn more in the trailer.
Coming soon big analysis

Christmas presents for Mafia 2 fans
Yesterday, after almost a month, another update of the official website came up. We do have here two novelties at once. The first one of them is further continuation of the series Get to know your dev, this time with the chief animator of Motion Capture, who had a chat with Elizabeth about his experience with creating animations and about how 2K Czech works on making the motions in the game incredibly realistic.
After a few weeks of updatings full of artworks and interviews with members 2K Czech, new trailer is going to appear, second in sequence already. Premiere of the trailer will be on December the 14th 2008 at 9p.m. at a show of Video Game Awards 2008 (VGA), set up by spike.com. The show will be taking place in California. At the exhibition, there are promoted the best games of the year and there is a presentation of new trailers as well. For this year’s volume, 11 games will be brought in, including Mafia 2, and also another three secret projects. After the premiere at the exhibition, the video is supposed to appear at gametrailers.com. We hope, that the autors will show us the first, long-awaited in-game views straight from playing the game, and not just another rendered video, which looks brilliant indeed, but doesn’t disclose the quality of the game. If any interesting news will appear – we will inform You.
Edit: 10th December was released a Teaser to new tralier
Teaser:
Mafia 2 versions
Although we don’t know the exact release date of Mafia 2 for the present, it is certain yet on which platforms is it going to be released. Gossips on the Internet say that Mafia 2 is primarily developed for PC and therefore the console-conversions (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) will originate from the PC version. Conversion in this case means modification of the game (graphics) for dimensions of consoles. Some time ago there were speculations saying that the PC version of Mafia 2 was going to be released some time after the consoles versions. When you think about it, it seems logical. Illusion Softworks as the developer of Mafia 2 was bought by the gigant Take 2, which is also the distributor of the well-known gangster series GTA, and as the world goes, in this series (of the games from Take 2 henceforth) every new part is released firstly for consoles and half a year after it appears on PCs. Most of the players or fans for example of the GTA mentioned have just a PC at home and when the game gets out half a year after the console version, where majority of the players had already finished the game, they are embittered of course and swear to the producer/distributor. But it’s nothing more than just a smart economic move, thanks to which the game is better sold than if it would have gone out for all the platforms at once. In the case of GTA, the game is announced for consoles at first and after the release, when the sale starts to fall off, it is announced for PCs (in the case of Mafia 2 all the 3 versions were announced at once). Anyway I must say, that the reason for later release of PC version is also a huge piracy on PC (about 90%). On consoles, the piracy is nearly zero: on Xbox 360 console it is about 5%, which is practically nothing in comparison with PC. When we look to the past, we can see that the first Mafia was released at first on PC and two years after on consoles (Xbox, PlayStation 2). Let’s hope then that Mafia 2 will go out for all the platforms at once, the sooner the better. If so, hopefully this move performed by 2K Czech/Take 2 will be succesful and supporters of all 3 platforms will be satisfied. Me, as an owner of console Xbox 360 and a PC, I must say, that if the game gets out for all the version in the same time, I would propably take the Xbox one (if it’s, as well as the PC version, in my mother language – czech). The reasons are simple – I don’t need to care about hardware demandingness and I settle down comfortably in an armchair to the TV with a remote-control in my hands :) The End.
