Hands on previews from EAST PAX 10

March 29, 2010

IGN PC

US, March 26, 2010 – If you’ve spent any time digging around on IGN, you know the site has a super-active community. The comments on the articles, the message boards, and our beloved blogs. Right now, a crew of IGN editors is at PAX East and so is a crew of IGN community members. Rather than let these pillars of the IGN community come to PAX East and sit around blogging about lunch and whatnot, we put them to work.

That’s right, 2K Games was nice enough to turn over its Mafia II demo area for a VIP session for the IGN Community. In return, IGN told those kids to write some impressions. Six IGN bloggers joined Daemon Hatfield and Greg Miller to drive around in cars from the ’50s, shoot Tommy guns, and sell stolen cigarettes.

What did they think of their time in the city of Empire Bay playing the same demo IGN saw at GDC? Well, let’s find out, and then be sure to click on their usernames to visit their blogs here on IGN.

US, March 26, 2010 – I got to play Mafia II for my first time today at PAX East, and while the build was the same as what was shown a couple weeks ago at the Game Developer’s Conference, I did get to see one aspect of the game we haven’t covered before: the in-game Playboy magazines. As you may have heard, developer 2K Games has partnered with Playboy to drop vintage copies of the “Entertainment for Men” into the world of Mafia II. Sharp-eyed players will find the magazines lying around and be able to pick them up and ogle the centerfolds.

GRTV writes: “We were fortunate enough to get our hands on Mafia 2 at Game Developer’s Conference. Afterwards we sat down to discuss what we had just played and how the game measured up to our expectations.”

PAX East impressions – Mafia II

March 29, 2010

Impressions from PAX East. Writen by Geoff Hathaway radactor gamebits.com. One of the biggest games on the show floor at PAX East 2010 is Mafia II. Playable for the first time to the public, Mafia II follows the adventures of Vito, an up and coming mobster. In my short 15 minute demo, I started off selling cigarettes to people on the street when a bunch of “greasers” make their way over to start some trouble. After a lengthy cutscene, they light Vito and his bosses’ truck on fire. To get back at them, you and your crew go to their hangout, shoot it up with a million bullets and some Molotov cocktails. Unfortunately for you, their first hideout is empty, but then you drive over to the foundry where you know they are located. Another lengthy cutscene shows your boss hit a bunch of dudes in the face with a baseball bat and shoot some others. They promptly start to run for their lives and it is your job to kill them all to complete the mission.

New artwork and screenshot :UPDATE

I retouched for your artwork from the official site. It’s the same artwork, which is used for the game cover. Enjoy!

UPDATE: I found a new screenshot of the game, in which Vito is hiding behind a burning barrel, while the others shooting at him.
